Michael acquired a passion for literature as a very young boy. His parents would read him stories before bedtime, alternating between classic and pleasurable children's books. These memories of being read to are very pivotal in Michael's childhood. They are some of the best memories of that period of his life. Michael believes that parents are usually the ones who teach their children how to read. Some people read books to obtain knowledge, others read books just for pleasure. Michael thinks there should be a healthy balance of both to keep literature both useful and interesting. Books from all over the spectrum should be read to create a wealth of knowledge. Michael sees some people reading for fun and others reading classic literature. Although the debate could be made that the classic literature is more worthwhile, both will leave the reader with another story in their mind that hopefully expands their perception of the world. To create a full wealth of knowledge, though, the readers should switch with the other person and read both. To be a good reader, one should just try and read as many books as possible. The more books that are read, the more knowledge there is to be had. Reading is usually easier for Michael when he can picture what is happening in the book in his mind. If he can get a full mental image of the story, it makes it flow much smoother. The hardest part of reading for Michael is when the book's plot is very slow to unravel. If the story does not have a good pace, it is hard to keep reading. Michael likes to choose books by looking at reviews and figuring out if they would be a good read for him that way. Michael likes to look for plots that seem new or interesting because reading a similar plot every time makes the book get kind of predictable. He reads at home whenever he gets the chance, but he is very busy and doesn't get as much time as he would like. When he starts a book, he likes to finish it quickly so he gets the full story at once. With longer books, it is not always easy to do that. Michael feels very comfortable with reading, and he really enjoys it as well. It is, of course, more enjoyable when the book he is reading is able to ignite his passion for literature.
Michael developed his writing ability in conjunction with his passion for literature. Reading a lot as a young child and being read to while looking at the pages really helps you pair the words to their meaning. He also liked to play a lot of video games as a child, and he believes the dialogue really helped him expand his vocabulary. He had to understand meanings of words in order to understand what was going on in the game. Being read to and trying to read yourself combine to develop most writing abilities in society.
